چکیده

Abstract Particle breakage and the corresponding change of morphology are two key factors governing mechanical behavior calcareous sands in offshore geotechnical engineering constructions. To reveal characteristics these factors, oedometer tests on have been performed this study. The materials were sampled from South China Sea with a homogenous composition but different particle size ranges relative densities. In tests, dynamic imaging analysis (DIA) by Microtrac PartAn 3D acoustic emission (AE) techniques employed to investigate evolution AE signaling associated material deformations, respectively. compressive deformation was mainly induced rearrangement which effectively irreversible plastic deformations. irregular shape has led strong interparticle filling interlocking effects, affected slippage significantly during deformation. intensity type AE-triggering micro-mechanical behaviors characterized ringdown counts (RDC) peak frequency, RDC values concentrated primarily compression stage increased rapidly under normal stress 400–3200 kPa. increase decreased initial density. consistent existing laws.

Cumulative Fatigue Damage Under stepwise Tension-Compression Loading

Rock structures are subjected to cyclic tension-compression loading due to a blasting, earthquake, traffic and injection-production in underground storage case. Therefore study the fatigue behavior of rock samples under this type of loading is required. In this study, the accumulated fatigue damage for a Green Onyx rock sample which consisted of only one mineral composition with two-step high-l...

An investigation of single sand particle fracture using X-ray micro-tomography

Particle breakage is of fundamental importance for understanding the mechanical behaviour of sands and is relevant to many geotechnical engineering problems. In order to gain new insights into the mechanism of breakage of individual sand particles under single-particle compression, this study combines mechanical tests with three-dimensional X-ray micro-computed tomography (μCT) performed ‘in si...

Experimental Study on the Responses of Bucket Foundations in Calcareous Sand under Vertical Dynamic Loading

Experiments to determine the vertical static bearing capacity are carried out first in laboratory which is taken as a reference for choosing the amplitudes of vertical dynamic loading. Then a series of experiments are carried out to study the influences of factors, such as the scales of bucket, the amplitude and frequency of loading, the density of soils etc.. According to the experimental resu...
